The Pointer & Setter Club welcomes anyone with an interest in working gundogs, field trials, and hunting dogs — whether you are an experienced competitor, an active hunter, or completely new to the sport. Membership gives you the opportunity to train, learn, compete, and connect with people who share a passion for pointer, setter, and HPR breeds. Our Club is built on knowledge sharing, good sportsmanship, and helping both dogs and handlers reach their potential.

Dogs of all ages and ability levels are welcome.

You do not need prior field trial experience to join — many members begin as complete beginners.

Training & Learning Opportunities

The Club runs regular training days throughout the year. These sessions help handlers understand:

  • Hunting patterns and control

  • Developing pointing instinct

  • Steadiness and manners around birds

  • Retrieving skills

  • Trial preparation

Training days are friendly, practical, and designed to build confidence for both dog and handler.

Membership Year

The Pointer & Setter Club membership year runs from:

1 March – 28/29 February

Joining at any time during the year allows you to participate in Club activities and events for the current membership period.

Safety & Responsibility

The Club promotes safe and responsible gun handling at all events. A firearms licence is required to compete in Championship game trials, but no shotgun handling is required for novice participation or training days.
